Preserving Efforts Vol. 1

Preserving Efforts Vol. 1 arrived at the crib from my peoples down under. This DVD is a collection of 14 hip hop videos from five different countries with added tidbits about each video such as the location, recording time, and budget. While there are some known American names on the disc like Atmosphere, Living Legends, Murs and Guru, for U.S. fans ‘Preserving Efforts’ will be more like an introduction to the Australian hip hop scene with some tracks from Netherlands, Canada and England sprinkled in. Over half of the videos originate from the Outback and that in itself is pretty refreshing. This may be my biased interest in overseas hip hop talking but from a strictly music perspective a lot of these joints bang harder than their U.S. counterparts. Some of the standouts include Bliss N Eso’s “Then Till Now,” Pete Philly & Perquisite’s “Grateful” and the creative filming of Def Tex’ “Freaks.” At just under an hour “Preserving Efforts” gives you a glimpse of how vast the hip hop nation has grown.
